They Don't All Go As Planned

We were excited to get this past week going. We had two Castrol Flo Night in America races scheduled not too far from home; but once again, the rains came and postponed both races. We decided to add a couple of Lucas Oil races to our schedule instead, and headed back to two of our favorite tracks – Farmer City and Fairbury.

Farmer City had 55 of the best late model drivers in the world signed in. Kye drew a low number which put the 31AUS in group A. Kye laid down a fantastic lap that put him fifth fastest in his group. Six heat races were lined up, with the top three transferring to the A main. Kye finished fourth in his heat, which put him in the B-main; and there he finished third, one spot out from transferring to the A main.

The Saturday race at Fairbury had 47 Lucas Oil late model entries. This time, Kye drew a high number, which put him in group B. His fastest hot lap was 13.063. When he came out to qualify, his fastest lap was 14.706. There seemed to be a problem. And there was. After hot laps, the engine heater blew apart and sliced Wade’s leg pretty bad. The ambulance came and took Wade to the hospital to get looked at, and Jordan went with him. That left Kye on his own to qualify. He didn’t get to think about the car or driving it, so after qualifying he loaded up and went to the hospital to be with his team. Afterall, the welfare of Wade was more important than racing.

BAR31TEAM wishes to thank the Fairbury Speedway Staff and all those that rallied around to help. Wade is doing well. He’s sore, but we’re all very grateful for the INSTANT response, he and his son Jordan are due to fly home Sunday afternoon after their month on the LM racing trail in the USA. Wade is now on the AA flight and will relax and not strain the stitches in his leg!!

Kye is back in Greencastle, regrouping and getting ready to hit the road again this week with two new smiling Aussie crew members. Hope Mother Nature plays nice.
